Use any project as a template – new module is out

After extended testing with our beta testers we have released the new Project Templates add-on. It is available from our Marketplace for just $2.99 a month or $34 for a year. Check it out – we have a 14 days no credit card trial for it!

With Project Templates you can use existing projects as templates to create new projects. You can set projects inactive to prevent users from seeing these template projects and making accidental changes. We went one step further and allow you to use existing completed projects with ability to set due dates to one year ahead. So new or old, you can use any project as a template.

We have manually done project replication and learned about all the different situations our users have, so we’ve focused on ensuring the product will suit your needs. We simply automated the process. Now you have access to a simple 3 step wizard where some options may pop-up depending on your selections.

On step one – you select a project to copy from and type the new project name. You also select what applications will go into the new project. Often you do not want to drag Discussions or Time Tracking entries and if you use Freedcamp we assume that you know that each project can have very own set of applications. If you selected an application where a project you are copying has due dates we let you know.

Project Templates - step 1

On step two – you can either remove all due dates or keep them. We also allow you to shift forward all due dates relatively to the earliest due date in your original/template project.

Project Templates - step 2

On step three – you select if you want to keep team assigned or remove everyone and whether or not you want to make new project available or keep it as inactive after it will be created.

Project Templates - step 3

Because original project can have a lot of files we decided not to leave you waiting in front of the screen for a new project to be created but to send you an email with a link to a new project.

You can access it from Manage Projects page. Project Group Administrators in your account have access to this module and will be able to use it within your account.

We have great feedback from Prescott Perez-Fox – one of out beta testers. Prescott is an Art Director of Starship Design.

He suggested:
– pick up source project/template color and set is a default for a new project but allow to change
– remember original project group, where last template was used and pre-select is when you use it next time
– for those who uses templates add extra option ‘create from a template’ everywhere in Freedcamp, where a new project can be created

Give it a go and let us know what you think.
